FTA-310 OperATing MAnuAl18Reception of Weather Channel Broadcasts(USA version only)The FTA-310 can receive VHF Weather Channel broad-casts, which may assist your flight planning. The FTA-310 includes a ten-channel auto-search feature, whichsimplifies access to Weather Channels when you are inan unfamiliar location. To receive WeatherChannels, press down-ward on the VOLUMEknob (repeatedly, ifnecessary) to select theWeather Channel mode.In the Weather Channelmode, “- WX -” will appear on the display. The FTA-310 will now scan quickly through theten standard Weather Channels, and will stop on thefirst active station found. If there are two or more weather channels audible inyour area, you may select the alternate channel(s) bypressing the PTT switch. Pressing the PTT switchre-initiates the scanning process. If there are no Weather Channels in your area, thescanner will not stop. Press the MONITOR switchto stop the scanner. You can also select Weather Channels manually byrotating the DIAL selector knob. To confirm the current Weather Channel frequency,press the [ ( )] key momentarily. The displaychanges to frequency indication. Press the[ ( )] key again to return to normal display. To exit the Weather Channel mode, press downwardon the VOLUME knob momentarily to return to theVFO mode.Note 1:In the event of extreme weather disturbances, such asstorms and hurricanes, the NOAA (National Oceanicand Atmospheric Administration) sends a weather alertaccompanied by a 1050 Hz tone and subsequent weatherreport on one of the NOAA weather channels. You maysetup the Alert function when receiving the WeatherAlert signal via Menu Item 20 “WXAF,” if desired.
