VX-8R O PERATING M ANUAL122MISCELLANEOUS S ETTINGP ASSWORDThe VX-8R provides a password feature which can minimize the chance that your trans-ceiver could be used by an unauthorized party.When the password feature is activated, the radio will ask for the four digit password to beentered when the radio is first turned on. You must enter thefour digit password from the keypad. If the wrong password isentered, the microprocessor will shut down the radio automati-cally.To enter and activate the password use the following procedure:1. Press and hold the key for one second to enter the Set Mode.2. Rotate the DIAL knob to select Set Mode Item 69:69:69:69:69:PASSWORDPASSWORDPASSWORDPASSWORDPASSWORD.3. Press the key briefly to enable adjustment ofthis Set Mode Item.4. Press the key to enable programming the password.5. Rotate the DIAL knob to select the first digit of thedesired number/letter (00000 - 99999, AAAAA, BBBBB, CCCCC, DDDDD, ¼, and #####).6. Press the key to move to the next digit.7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to program the remaining num-bers/letters of the desired password.8. If you make a mistake, press the key to moveback to the previous digit, then select the correct num-ber/letter.9. When you have finished entering the password, pressthe key and rotate the DIAL knob to select “ONONONONON” (toactivate the password feature).10. Press the PTT switch to save the new setting and exit tonormal operation.If you wish to disable the Password feature, repeat steps 1 - 3 above. Rotate the DIALknob to select “OFFOFFOFFOFFOFF”, then press the PTT switch.1) We recommend that you write down the password number, and keep it in asafe place where you can easily find if you forget your password.2) If you forget the password number, you may turn on the transceiver byperforming the “Microprocessor Resetting” procedure (see page 134). However, theVX-8R will clear the password, as well as all memories, and will restore all other set-tings to factory defaults.
