VX-8R O PERATING M ANUAL62VFO S CANNINGThis mode allows you to scan on the VFO mode.1. Select the VFO mode by pressing the key, if necessary.2. Press and hold in the key, then rotate the DIAL knob while holding in thekey (the current bandwidth for the VFO scanner will appearon the display) to select the bandwidth for the VFO scan-ner. Available selections are ±1 MHz±1 MHz±1 MHz±1 MHz±1 MHz, ±2 MHz±2 MHz±2 MHz±2 MHz±2 MHz, ±5 MHz±5 MHz±5 MHz±5 MHz±5 MHz,BANDBANDBANDBANDBAND, ALLALLALLALLALL, and PMS-XPMS-XPMS-XPMS-XPMS-X.±1 MHz±1 MHz±1 MHz±1 MHz±1 MHz, ±2 MHz±2 MHz±2 MHz±2 MHz±2 MHz, ±5 MHz±5 MHz±5 MHz±5 MHz±5 MHz: The scanner will sweep frequencies within the selectedbandwidth.BANDBANDBANDBANDBAND: The scanner will sweep frequencies only on the cur-rent band.ALLALLALLALLALL: The scanner will sweep all frequencies between 1.8MHz and 999.99 MHz (except the FM Broadcast Band:76 - 107 MHz).PMS-XPMS-XPMS-XPMS-XPMS-X: The scanner will sweep frequencies within the cur-rently-selected PMS frequency pair. See page 68 fordetails.3. Release the key to start scanning.4. When the scanner encounters a signal strong enough to open the squelch, the scannerwill halt temporarily; the decimal point of the frequency display will blink during this“Pause” condition.5. The scanner will then resume according to the Scan-Resume mode selected in theprevious section.6. To cancel scanning, press the PTT switch or key.1) If you want to change direction of the scan while it is underway, rotate theDIAL knob one click in the opposite direction. You’ll see the scanner turnaround and change frequency downward!2) You may initiate upward or downward scanning in the previously selected band-width, by pressing and holding either or key for one second, respectively.3) You may change the scanner’s method of operation so the VFO frequency will jumpto the low band edge of the next band when the VFO frequency reaches the high edgeof the current band (or vice versa).
