Starting the OfficeConnect Remote 812 Manager 2-13Network ServiceYour Service provider should provide you with the type ofNetwork Service to configure for your WAN connection. The OCR 812 supports the following Network Services: PPP — The Point to Point Protocol is a WAN interfaceprotocol between the OCR 812 and your ISP’s RemoteServer. The protocol provides built in negotiation foraddresses and connection parameters, and can routemultiple protocols over a single link. PPPoA (Point to Point Protocol over ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) — One of the WANPPP protocols your ISP chooses. PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet —Another WAN PPP protocol that is compatible withPCs and many of their pre-existing connections. RFC 1483 – Is a defined protocol standard thatdescribes two encapsulation methods for carryingnetwork traffic over ATM AAL5. The encapsulationmethods; routed and bridged, must be configured thesame on both ends of the link. To select routed encapsulation, select RFC 1483. To select bridged encapsulation, select RFC 1483with MAC encapsulation. RFC 1483 with MAC Encapsulation – SpecifiesRFC 1483 with a bridge encapsulation. This featureenables the OCR 812 to function as a router but towork in a bridged environment. When enabled, thenetwork level addresses are used for forwarding, butthe MAC layer addresses are pre-pended in the ethernetheader over the Wide Area Connection.ATM VC ParametersYour Service provider should provide you with the VirtualPath Identifier (VPI) and Virtual Connection Identifier (VCI)values to configure for your connection. These arepre-assigned virtual path information used to route ATMcells through the network to your ISP.
