168 APPENDIX A: UPGRADING VCX S ERVER SOFTWARE FROM V7.0 TO V7.1Preliminary Steps Prior to performing any upgrade, you should check the following:■ Check the configuration type of the system you are going to upgrade. The upgrade procedure you need to perform depends on your VCXsystem configuration (see VCX Software Components and VCXHardware Configurations). You can use the vcx-showconfigtypecommand to verify the configuration type. Your configurationdetermines the correct tar file (or files) required for the upgrade.■ You must stop database replication before starting the upgradeprocess. On replicated systems, check replication status to make sure itis normal. To check replication status, execute the following steps onthe server hosting the Authentication and Directory services database:Log in using the cworks account.Enter: cd /opt/3com/VCX/vcxdata/binEnter: ./checkReplicationThe returned status should be NORMAL. If replication errors need tobe cleared:Enter: ./deleteReplicationErrorsCAUTION: Do not attempt an upgrade if there are replication errors thatcannot be deleted.CAUTION: If you are upgrading a multi-site VCX system, you mustensure that phone extensions are unique throughout the system. In aVCX v7.0 multi-site system, it was possible to configure duplicateextensions in different regions. This included not only extensions assignedto a user but extensions assigned to hunt group, page groups, and callpickup groups. A VCX v7.1 multi-site system uses the Global Directory(which combines the local user directories on each region) to enable callrouting between regions. See the VCX Administration Guide, version 7.1,for information on managing phone extensions.Post-UpgradeConsiderationsIn versions of VCX software prior to VCX v7.1, phone attributes (such asdial plan, ring tones, voicemail number) are configured for each phoneextension. VCX v7.1 software includes a new feature called a phoneprofile.A phone profile includes a set of attributes that are common to all phoneextensions that are assigned to the profile.
