72 CHAPTER 4: BACKING UP AND RESTORING A VCX CONFIGURATIONapply the old configuration by restoring the backup file to theupgraded system.■ You can backup and restore the currently active version of VCXsoftware and the currently active version of the VCX operating systemonly. Configuration files from any other versions of VCX (or itsconstituent components) or the operating system which may be onthe system are not backed up. This means that, depending on thereason for the backup and restore, you may not be able to downgradea restored system to a prior release.■ You cannot modify a configuration backup file and restore it, either asa way of changing a configuration or as a way of configuring multiplesystems with similar configurations.■ Partial backups are not supported (for example, you cannot back upone component or a subset of components) on a single machine.■ Backup files are not encrypted. Backup files typically contain sensitiveinformation, and must be treated with care and stored securely.■ Files that do not contain configuration data (for example, log files andcache files) are not backed up.■ Configuration files associated with the VCX operating system that arenot typically modified in the course of normal system configurationare not backed up.Backing Up a VCXConfigurationThis section describes how to use the vcx-config-backup command tocreate a VCX configuration backup file.To create a VCX configuration backup file:1 Log in, using the root account, to the machine hosting the VCXconfiguration you want to back up.2 Enter the following command:vcx-config-backup [optional-arguments]The optional arguments include:■ --help — Displays information on command usage.■ --fullauto — Specifies that the command should run inautomatic mode.
