42 Control system and interfacesFor the related manuals refer to the project documentation, containing the relevantManuals and quick guides for I/O extension modules, fieldbus adapters, etc. Control tasksThe BCU has specific control and closed-loop tasks assigned to it. It processes drive andstatus information, performs the speed and torque control tasks, and monitors theoperation of the drive. All relevant drive variables (e.g. speed, torque, current, voltage) are continuouslymonitored by the control system. Pre-programmed protection functions ensure that thesevariables remain within certain limits in order to maintain safe operation of the drive. Theseinternal functions are not programmable by the user.Optionally, the drive can monitor signals from external equipment. These can be activatedand adjusted with parameters.Other general control, protection and monitoring tasks regarding the whole drive includecontrol and monitoring of:• Main circuit breaker• Door locking system• Cooling fansParameters and application macrosThe control system is configured, customized, and tuned with a set of applicationparameters. The application parameters are organized in functional groups and havefactory-set default values (application macros). The following application macros are available:• Factory (default application macro)The Factory macro is suited to relatively straightforward speed control applicationssuch as fans, pumps and conveyors.• Hand/AutoThe Hand/Auto macro is suited to speed control applications where two externalcontrol devices are used.• PID controlThe PID control macro is suitable for process control applications, for example closed-loop pressure, level or flow control systems.• Sequential controlThe Sequential control macro is suited for speed control applications in which a speedreference, multiple constant speeds, and two acceleration and deceleration ramps canbe used. The default parameter values are adjusted during commissioning to the specificapplication of the drive in order to activate the specific control, monitoring and protectionfunctions for the driven process, and to define the signals and data transferred betweendrive and external equipment. The main circuit breaker (MCB) is an important switching and protection device of thedrive system. Therefore it must only be controlled by the drive.
