OutlineFig. 2-301 shows a cross section of thedocument feed system. The various drive rollers are rotated bymotors via gears and timing belts. For controlling the document feed, varioussensors are arranged in necessary positions ofthe system. The arrangement of the sensors isshown in Fig. 2-301, 2-302 and 2-303.The document feed system is equipped withthe following functions.• Document tray driving mechanismDuring pick-up, this mechanism raises thedocument tray, and when pick-up is finished, lowers it.• Separating mechanismOverlapped documents can be separated bythe retard roller and the feed roller, to feed thedocuments one by one.• Staple detectionDetects the jumping up of documents bundledby staples when they are picked up, and stopsthe feeding.• Skew correction mechanismDetects skewed documents, enablingcorrection by the rollers, as well as in thescanned image. This selection is performed bythe computer.• Ultrasonic double feed detectionOverlapping documents (indicating doublefeeding) can be detected by the ultrasonicsensor.• Feed error detectionFeed errors (jams) can be detected by theregistration sensors (front & back).• Special feed modeChecks the feed condition of the machinewhithout using the personal computer.
