Chapter 4 Scanning 57Chapter 4Scanning 4You can use the printer to scan documents by the following methods:❏ Using the MultiPASS ToolbarThe MultiPASS Toolbar (also referred to as the Toolbar) enables youto scan a document or image into your PC. The appearance of theToolbar can change based on the settings (such as shown buttons andsize) you define for the Toolbar.❏ Using a TWAIN or WIA compliant Windows applicationIf you are using Windows 98/Me/2000, use ScanGear for MultiPASS,the TWAIN-compliant driver. You cannot use a WIA-compliantdriver. If you are using Windows XP, you can use either the ScanGearfor MultiPASS or the WIA-compliant driver. On the MultiPASSToolbar, click on Settings and then choose which driver you wouldlike to use. Both drivers allow you to use a printer to scan documentsto a Windows application such as a PhotoShop, that supports aTWAIN interface. Some applications allow multiple page scans,while others do not. If you are unsure whether your Windowsapplication supports this feature, refer to the user documentation forthe application you are using.When you scan a document, the system uses predefined settings thatdetermine the characteristics of your scanned image (such as the imagetype and resolution), enabling you to begin scanning immediately.However, you can change these settings as needed.
