The default System Setupscreens (see Figure 4-1, for example) do not show theasset tag number unless you enter one using this utility.NOTE: The Asset Tag utility works only on systems run-ning MS-DOS®.Using the Asset Tag UtilityUse the following procedure to create a system utilitydiskette and boot the system:1. If you have not already done so, create a bootablesystem utility diskette from the CD.2. Insert the diskette in drive A, and reboot thesystem.After you boot the system with the system utility dis-kette, you can use the Asset Tag utility to enter anasset tag number that you or your organizationassign to the computer. You can also use the AssetTag utility to reenter the computer’s service tag num-ber if that becomes necessary.You can view the asset tag number using the SystemSetup program as described in Chapter 4, “Using theSystem Setup Program.”Assigning and Deleting an Asset TagNumberAn asset tag number can have up to ten characters; anycombination of characters, excluding spaces, is valid. Toassign or change an asset tag number, type asset and aspace followed by the new number; then press <ENTER>.For example, type the following command line and press<ENTER>:asset 1234567890When prompted to verify the asset tag number, type yand press <ENTER>. The system then displays the new ormodified asset tag number and the service tag number.To delete the asset tag number without assigning a newone, type asset /d and press <ENTER>.Table 2-1 lists the command line options you can usewith the Asset Tag utility.
