B-4 Dell PowerEdge 4100/180 and 4100/200 Systems User’s GuideKeyboard and Mouse ConnectorsThe system uses a Personal System/2 (PS/2)-style key-board and supports a PS/2-compatible mouse. Cablesfrom both devices attach to 6-pin, miniature DeutscheIndustrie Norm (DIN) connectors on the back panel ofyour computer. The keyboard connector is on the bottom;the mouse connector is on the top.A PS/2-compatible mouse works identically to an indus-try-standard serial mouse or bus mouse except that it hasits own dedicated connector, which frees up both serialports and does not require an expansion card. Circuitryinside the mouse detects the movement of a small balland relays the direction to the computer.Mouse driver software can give the mouse priority withthe microprocessor by issuing IRQ12 whenever a newmouse movement is detected. The driver software alsopasses along the mouse data to the application programthat is in control.Keyboard ConnectorIf you reconfigure your hardware, you may need pin num-ber and signal information for the keyboard connector.Figure B-4 illustrates the pin numbers for the keyboardconnector, and Table B-3 lists and defines the pin assign-ments and interface signals for the keyboard connector.Figure B-4.
