This option runs a utility that allowsyou to perform a low-level format on a hard-diskdrive. Most SCSI disk drives are formatted at thefactory and do not need to be formatted again. TheAdaptec Format Disk utility is compatible with thevast majority of SCSI disk drives..• VERIFY DISK MEDIA. This option runs a utility thatallows you to scan the media of a hard-disk drive fordefects. If the utility finds bad blocks on the media, itprompts you to reassign them; if you select YES,those blocks are no longer used. You can press<ESC> at any time to exit the utility.Exiting SCSISelectTo exit SCSISelect, press <ESC> until a message promptsyou to exit. (If you changed any 78xx series host adaptersettings, you are prompted to save the changes before youexit.) At the prompt, select YES to exit, and then pressany key to reboot the computer. Any changes you madein SCSISelect take effect after the computer boots. The \scsisubdirectory on the diskette contains the following filesto be used with Windows NT 3.51:• aic78xx.sys — Adaptec’s 78xx Family driver forWindows NT• oemsetup.inf — A file used by Windows NT Setupfor driver installation• readme.txt — A text file describing the Adaptec78xx driver for Windows NTIf you are performing a first-time Windows NTinstallation, see the following subsection, “InstallingWindows NT 3.51 and the Driver,” to begin driverinstallation. If Windows NT is already installed in yoursystem, see “Using Windows NT to Install or Update theDriver” found later in this section.Installing Windows NT 3.51 and theDriverThis section describes how to install the aic78xx.sysdriver at the same time you install Windows NT 3.51. IfWindows NT 3.51 is already installed and you wish toinstall or update the aic78xx.sys driver, see “Using Win-dows NT to Install or Update the Driver,” found later inthis section.Performing a Windows NT 3.51 InstallationFollow these instructions only if you are installingWindows NT 3.51 for the first time. You can installWindows NT 3.51 from a diskette drive or from aCD-ROM drive; whichever you choose, make sure thehardware installation is completed prior to followingthese steps.NOTE: An older version of the aic78xx.sys driver isincluded in the Windows NT installation diskettes (or onthe CD-ROM). To avoid loading the older driver duringWindows NT installation, use the following procedure toCAUTION: The FORMAT DISK option destroysall data on the hard-disk drive.
