Please refer to your invoice to determine whichwarranty applies to your system. The terms of the war-ranties (both for the U.S. and Canada) are provided in thefollowing sections.Limited Three-Year Warranty(U.S. Only)Dell Computer Corporation (“Dell”) manufactures itshardware products from parts and components that arenew or equivalent to new in accordance with industry-standard practices. Dell warrants that the hardwareproducts it manufactures will be free from defects inmaterials and workmanship. The warranty term is threeyears beginning on the date of invoice, as described in thefollowing text.Damage due to shipping the products to you is coveredunder this warranty. Otherwise, this warranty does notcover damage due to external causes, including accident,abuse, misuse, problems with electrical power, servicingnot authorized by Dell, usage not in accordance withproduct instructions, failure to perform required preven-tive maintenance, and problems caused by use of partsand components not supplied by Dell.This warranty does not cover any items that are in one ormore of the following categories: software; sound cards;speakers; external devices (except as specifically noted);accessories or parts added to a Dell system after the sys-tem is shipped from Dell; accessories or parts added to aDell system through Dell’s system integration depart-ment; accessories or parts that are not installed in the Dellfactory; or DellWare products. Monitors, keyboards, andmice that are Dell-branded or that are included on Dell’sstandard price list are covered under this warranty; allother monitors, keyboards, and mice (including thosesold through the DellWare program) are not covered.Batteries for portable computers are covered only duringthe initial one-year period of this warranty.Coverage During Year OneDuring the one-year period beginning on the invoice date,Dell will repair or replace products covered under this lim-ited warranty that are returned to Dell’s facility. To requestwarranty service, you must call Dell’s Customer TechnicalSupport within the warranty period. Refer to Chapter 5,“Getting Help,” to find the appropriate telephone numberfor obtaining customer assistance. If warranty service isrequired, Dell will issue a Return Material AuthorizationNumber. You must ship the products back to Dell in theiroriginal or equivalent packaging, prepay shipping charges,and insure the shipment or accept the risk of loss or dam-age during shipment. Dell will ship the repaired orreplacement products to you freight prepaid if you use anaddress in the continental U.S. Shipments to other loca-tions will be made freight collect.NOTE: Before you ship the product(s) to Dell, back upthe data on the hard-disk drive(s) and any other storagedevice(s) in the product(s). Remove any removablemedia, such as diskettes, CDs, or PC Cards. Dell doesnot accept liability for lost data or software.Dell owns all parts removed from repaired products. Delluses new and reconditioned parts made by various manu-facturers in performing warranty repairs and buildingreplacement products.
