When you bootyour computer, it compares the system configurationinformation with the current hardware configuration. Ifyour computer’s hardware configuration doesn’t matchthe information recorded by the system setup options, anerror message may appear on your display.To fix this problem, correct the appropriate system setupoptions and reboot your computer. See Chapter 2, “Cus-tomizing System Features,” for detailed information.If, after checking the system setup options, you have notresolved the problem, see Chapter 4, “Running the DellDiagnostics.”Messages and CodesYour application programs, operating system, and thecomputer itself are capable of identifying problems andalerting you to them. When this occurs, a message mayappear on the computer’s display or on an external moni-tor (if one is attached), or a beep code may sound.If an error message appears on the display or externalmonitor, make a note of the message. See Table 3-2 foran explanation of the message and suggestions for cor-recting any errors. The messages are listed alphabetically.NOTE: If the message is not listed in Table 3-2, check thedocumentation for the application program that was run-ning at the time the message appeared and/or theoperating system documentation for an explanation ofthe message and a recommended action.
