Dell warrants that the hardwareproducts it manufactures will be free from defects inmaterials and workmanship. The warranty term is oneyear beginning on the date of invoice, as described in thefollowing text. This warranty is transferrable with thewarranted products.Damage due to shipping the products to you is coveredunder this warranty. Otherwise, this warranty does notcover damage due to external causes, including accident,abuse, misuse, problems with electrical power, servicingnot authorized by Dell, usage not in accordance withproduct instructions, failure to perform required preven-tive maintenance, and problems caused by use of partsand components not supplied by Dell.This warranty does not cover any items that are in one ormore of the following categories: software; sound cards;speakers; external devices (except as specifically noted);accessories or parts added to a Dell system after the sys-tem is shipped from Dell; accessories or parts added to aDell system through Dell’s system integration depart-ment; accessories or parts that are not installed in the Dellfactory; or DellWare products. Monitors, keyboards, andmice that are Dell-branded or that are included on Dell’sstandard price list are covered under this warranty; allother monitors, keyboards, and mice (including thosesold through the DellWare program) are not covered.Dell will repair or replace products covered under thislimited warranty that are returned to Dell’s facility. Torequest warranty service, you must call Dell’s CustomerTechnical Support within the warranty period. Refer toChapter 5, “Getting Help,” to find the appropriate tele-phone number for obtaining customer assistance. Ifwarranty service is required, Dell will issue a ReturnMaterial Authorization Number. You must ship the prod-ucts back to Dell in their original or equivalentpackaging, prepay shipping charges, and insure the ship-ment or accept the risk of loss or damage duringshipment. Dell will ship the repaired or replacementproducts to you freight prepaid if you use an address inCanada. Shipments to other locations will be madefreight collect.NOTE: Before you ship the product(s) to Dell, back upthe data on the hard-disk drive(s) and any other storagedevice(s) in the product(s). Remove any removablemedia, such as diskettes, CDs, or PC Cards.Dell owns all parts removed from repaired products. Delluses new and reconditioned parts made by various manu-facturers in performing warranty repairs and buildingreplacement products.
