The service tag is also accessed by certain Dell sup-port software, including diagnostics.There are no user-selectable settings for this option.NOTE: Convert the service tag number into an expressservice code when prompted to do so the first time youturn on the computer (or use the program in the DellAccessories folder or program group). Thecode helps Dell’s automated support telephone systemdirect your call more efficiently.Smart CPU ModeSMART CPU MODE allows the computer to slow down themicroprocessor automatically if it is not being activelyused.Settings for this option are:• ENABLED (the default) allows the computer to slowdown the microprocessor when it is inactive.• DISABLED keeps the microprocessor running at itsnormal operating speed regardless of microprocessorinactivity.To increase battery operating time, set the SMART CPUMODE option to ENABLED.When the SMART CPU MODE option is enabled and the micro-processor is inactive, the computer slows the microprocessor tosave power.NOTES: Some communications software may not workproperly when SMART CPU MODE is enabled. Dellrecommends that you set SMART CPU MODE to DISABLED ifyou are using communications software.Interactive application programs should function wellwhen SMART CPU MODE is enabled. (Examples of interactiveprograms include spreadsheet, text editor, graphics design,entertainment, educational, and utility programs.) However, youmay experience performance degradation when recalculating alarge spreadsheet or during an extensive screen redraw in agraphical program. Benchmark utilities may not perform asintended when doing microprocessor speed tests.
