Configuring Port Characteristics 479What is Link Dependency? The link dependency feature provides the ability to enable or disable one ormore ports based on the link state of one or more different ports. With linkdependency enabled on a port, the link state of that port is dependent on thelink state of another port. For example, if port A is dependent on port B andthe switch detects a link loss on port B, the switch automatically brings downthe link on port A. When the link is restored to port B, the switchautomatically restores the link to port A.Auto negotiation Enables a port to advertise its transmission rate, duplex mode and flow control abilities to itspartner.Speed Specifies the transmission rate for frames.Duplex mode Specifies whether the interface supportstransmission between the switch and theconnected client in one direction at a time (half)or both directions simultaneously (both).Maximum frame size Indicates the maximum frame size that can behandled by the port.Flow control This is a global setting that affects all ports.
