Connecting AC Power to a J-EX8200 SwitchJ-EX8200 switches can be configured with up to six AC power supplies. After you haveinstalled at least one power supply, you can connect power to the switch.CAUTION: Mixing different types of power supplies in the same chassis isnot a supported configuration.NOTE: Each power supply must be connected to a dedicated AC powersource outlet. Before you begin to connect power to the switch:• Ensure you understand how to prevent ESD damage. See “Prevention of ElectrostaticDischarge Damage on J-EX Series Switches” on page 230.• Ensure that you have connected the switch chassis to earth ground.CAUTION: To meet safety and electromagnetic interference (EMI)requirements and to ensure proper operation, J-EX8200 switches must beadequately grounded before they are connected to power. For installations that require a separate grounding conductor to the chassis, use the protective earthing terminal on the J-EX8200 switch chassis toconnect to the earth ground. For instructions on connecting a J-EX8200switch to ground using a separate grounding conductor, see “ConnectingEarth Ground to a J-EX Series Switch” on page 129.A J-EX8200 switch gets additional grounding when you plug the powersupply in the switch into a grounded AC power outlet by using the AC jumpercord or the separately orderable AC power cord appropriate for yourgeographical location. See “AC Power Cord Specifications for a J-EX8200Switch” on page 83.• Install power supplies in the switch. See “Installing an AC Power Supply in a J-EX8200Switch” on page 114.Ensure that you have the following parts and tools available to connect power to theswitch:• Electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap• AC jumper cords or separately orderable AC power cords appropriate for yourgeographical location. See “AC Power Cord Specifications for a J-EX8200 Switch” onpage 83.131Chapter 10: Connecting the Switch
