15ADD WATER AND SALT TO THE SALTSTORAGE TANKWARNINGEXCESSIVE WEIGHT HAZARD:Use two or more people to move and lift saltbags. Failure to do so can result in back orother injuries.1. Using a container, add about three gallons ofclean water into the salt storage tank.2. Add salt to the storage tank. Use nugget,pellet or coarse solar salts with less than 1%impurities.PLUG IN THE WATER SOFTENER1. Plug the water softener into an electricaloutlet that is not controlled by a switch.2. Replace the top cover.3. Replace the salt hole cover.NOTE: The water heater is filled with hardwater and,as hot water is used, it will refillwith conditioned water. In a few days, the hotwater will be fully conditioned. To have fullyconditioned hot water immediately, wait untilthe initial recharge is over. Then, drain thewater heater(following instructions for waterheater) until water runs cold.WARNING Discard all unusedparts and packaging material afterinstallation. Small parts remaining after theinstallation could be a choke hazard.SANITIZE THE WATER SOFTENER /SANITIZE AFTER SERVICE1. Open salt hole cover, remove the brinewellcover and pour about 3 oz. (6 tablespoons)of household bleach into the softenerbrinewell. Replace the brinewell cover.2. Make sure the bypass valve(s) is in the“service”(open) position.3. Start a recharge (regeneration). See “Start aRecharge”on Page 17.4. After the recharge has completed, fully opena cold water faucet, downstream from thesoftener, and allow 50 gallons of water topass through the system. This should take atleast 20 minutes. Close the faucet.Installation Instructions
