Maintenance Manual September 2016Quarterly Maintenance Procedures28 Genie Telehandlers Part No. 12728589 Check the ambient air temperature and adjustthe specific gravity reading for each cell asfollows:• Add 0.004 to the reading of each cell forevery 10° F / 5.5° C above 80° F / 26.7° C.• Subtract 0.004 from the reading of each cellfor every 10° F / 5.5° C below 80° F / 26.7°C.Result: All battery cells display a specificgravity of 1.277 or greater. The battery is fullycharged. Proceed to step 10.Result: One or more battery cells display aspecific gravity from 1.218 to 1.269. Thebattery is still usable, but at a lowerperformance. The battery will need to berecharged more often. Proceed to step 10.Result: One or more battery cells display aspecific gravity from 1.217 to 1.173. Thebattery is approaching the end of it's life.Proceed to step 10.Result: The difference in specific gravityreadings between cells is greater than 0.1 ORthe specific gravity of one or more cells is lessthan 1.177. Replace the battery.10 Check the battery acid level. If needed, replenish with distilled water to 1/ 8 inch / 3 mmbelow the bottom of the battery fill tube. Do notoverfill.11 Install the vent caps and neutralize anyelectrolyte that may have spilled.Q-3 Ins pect the Electrical WiringQ-3Inspect the Electrical WiringGenie specifications require that this procedure beperformed quarterly.Maintaining electrical wiring in good condition isessential to safe operation and good machineperformance. Failure to find and replace burnt, chafed, corroded or pinched wires could result inunsafe operating conditions and may causecomponent damage.Electrocution/burn hazard.Contact with electrically chargedcircuits could result in death orserious injury. Remove all rings, watches and other jewelry.1 Inspect the following areas for burnt, chafed, corroded and loose wires:• Inside of the operator's compartment• Underside of the chassis• Inside engine compartment2 Inspect for a lite, even coating of dielectricgrease in the following locations:• All harness connectorsNote: Do not apply excessive amounts of dielectricgrease to harness connectors, pins or sockets.Note: Do not apply dielectric grease to a engineECU/ECM or engine harness connectors.3 Start the engine and raise the boom so thereis enough room to access and remove all thecovers attached to the chassis.4 Attach a lifting strap from an overhead craneto the boom. Support the boom. Do not applyany lifting pressure.
