September 2016 Maintenance ManualAnnual Maintenance ProceduresPart No. 1272858 Genie Telehandlers 395 Move to the fork end of the same boomsection that was just measured.6 Measure the distance between the top surfaceof the boom and the same reference pointused on the sequencing chain in step 4. Notethe measurement (2).Result: The difference betweenmeasurements 1 and 2 is 0.25 to 0.5 inch /6.35 to 12.7 mm. No adjustment to the chain isnecessary. Proceed to step 10.Result: The difference betweenmeasurements 1 and 2 is less than a0.25 inch / 6.35 mm OR is greater than0.5 inch / 12.7 mm. The chain requiresadjustment. Proceed to step 7.Note: The measurements taken in step 4 and step6 must be taken from the same plane on the boom.7 Working at the fork end of the large boomtube, locate the adjustable chain anchor onthe top of boom section.8 Place an adjustable wrench across the flatpart of the chain, just ahead of the chainanchor. Tighten the wrench onto the chain.9 Using a 1 7/16 inch wrench, adjust the nut asrequired to tighten or loosen the chain. Repeatthis procedure for each chain beginning withstep 4.A-3 Adj ust the Boom Sequencing C hai ns - GTH-1056A-3Adjust the Boom SequencingChains - GTH-1056Genie specifications require that this procedure beperformed annually.1 Raise the boom to the horizontal position.2 Extend the boom fully, then retract the boomapproximately 1 inch / 25 mm.3 Tie a string line on each end of the chain, being sure to pull the string taut.4 At the midpoint of the string, measure thedistance between the string and the chainsurface corresponding to the surface the stringline is attached to.Result: The distance is 0.25 to 0.5 inch /6.35 to 12.7 mm. No adjustment to the chain isnecessary. Proceed to step 8.Result: The distance is less than a 0.25 inch /6.35 mm OR is greater than 0.5 inch /12.7 mm. The chain requires adjustment.Proceed to step 5.5 Working at the fork end of the large boomtube, locate the adjustable chain anchor onthe top of the boom section.
