June 2017 Service and Repair ManualAxle ComponentsPart No. 1268497 SX-180 13510-3Axle Extension CylindersHow to Remove an AxleExtension CylinderNote: When removing a hose assembly or fitting,the O-ring (if equipped) on the fitting and/or hoseend must be replaced. All connections must betorqued to specification during installation. Refer toSpecifications, Hydraulic Hose and Fitting TorqueSpecifications.Note: Perform this procedure with the machine ona firm, level surface and in the stowed position withthe axles extended.Note: This procedure will require the use of aportable hydraulic power unit.1 Tag, disconnect and plug the hydraulic hosesfrom the axle extension cylinder. Cap thefittings on the cylinder.Bodily injury hazard. Sprayinghydraulic oil can penetrate andburn skin. Loosen hydraulicconnections very slowly to allowthe oil pressure to dissipategradually. Do not allow oil tosquirt or spray.2 Remove the axle extension limit switch coverfasteners. Remove the cover.3 Remove the limit switch mounting fastenersand remove the limit switch. Do not disconnectthe wiring.4 Connect the hydraulic hoses from a portablehydraulic power unit to the axle extensioncylinder.Note: Connect the pressure hose from the powerunit to the "R" port of the cylinder and the returnhose from the power unit to the "E" port on thecylinder.5 Support the axle extension cylinder with asuitable lifting device. Protect the cylinder rodfrom damage.6 Remove the pin retaining fasteners from bothaxle extension cylinder pivot pins.7 Use a soft metal drift to remove the pins.8 Using the portable hydraulic power unit,retract the axle extension cylinder until theends of the cylinder clear the axles.9 Remove the axle extension cylinder from themachine.Crushing hazard. The axleextension cylinder may becomeunbalanced and fall if notproperly supported by the liftingdevice.
