June 2017 Service and Repair ManualPlatform ComponentsPart No. 1268497 SX-180 272-2Platform Leveling CylinderThe platform leveling cylinder keeps the platformlevel through the entire range of boom motion. Theplatform is maintained level to the turntable. Toaccomplish this, the ECM at the ground controlscompares the difference in readings between theplatform angle sensor and the turntable levelsensor, which then sends a signal to the platformcontrols to open or close the appropriate platformlevel proportional valve on the platform manifold tomaintain a level platform. The platform levelingcylinder is equipped with counterbalance valves toprevent movement in the event of a hydraulic linefailure. How to Remove the PlatformLeveling CylinderNote: When removing a hose assembly or fitting, the O-ring (if equipped) on the fitting and/or hoseend must be replaced. All connections must betorqued to specification during installation. Refer toSpecifications, Hydraulic Hose and Fitting TorqueSpecifications.1 Raise the jib boom slightly and place blocksunder the platform.2 Lower the jib boom until the platform is restingon the blocks just enough to support theplatform.Note: Do not rest the entire weight of the boom onthe blocks.3 Secure the platform leveling cylinder to the jibboom for support.4 Remove the pin retaining fasteners from thebarrel-end pivot pin. Use a soft metal drift toremove the barrel-end pivot pin.5 Support the rod end of the platform levelcylinder.6 Remove the pin retaining fasteners from theplatform leveling cylinder rod-end pivot pin.Use a soft metal drift to remove the barrel-endpivot pin.7 Carefully pull the platform leveling cylinder outof the boom to access the hydraulic hoses.8 Tag, disconnect and plug the hydraulic hosesfrom the platform leveling cylinder. Cap thefittings on the cylinder.Bodily injury hazard. Sprayinghydraulic oil can penetrate andburn skin. Loosen hydraulicconnections very slowly to allowthe oil pressure to dissipategradually. Do not allow oil tosquirt or spray.9 Remove the platform leveling cylinder from themachine.Crushing hazard. The platformleveling cylinder may fall if notproperly supported whenremoved from the machine.
