June 2017 Service and Repair ManualGround ControlsPart No. 1268497 SX-180 776-1Bypass/Recovery Key SwitchThe turntable control box (TCON) is thecommunication and operations center for themachine. The turntable control box contains twokey switches. The main key switch towards the topof the control box is for selection of ground orplatform controls. The key switch at the bottom ofthe control box is the Bypass/Recovery key switch.Bypass and Recovery modes are only intended forcertain circumstances and are not part of normalmachine operation. If either the Bypass or theRecovery function is required, this indicates theremay be faults with the machine. Contact trainedpersonnel immediately.Bypass is used for a platform out-of-level conditionand calibrating certain machine parameters.Recovery is only to be used as a last attempt tolower the platform when the operator in theplatform is unable to do so, system failure or inemergency situations.1 Run2 Bypass / Recovery3 RecoveryHow to Use the Bypass ModeTip-over hazard. Operating themachine outside of the operatingenvelope while in Bypass modewill result in death or seriousinjury if proper operatingprocedures and safetyprecautions are not followed. Donot use this mode if you are nottrained and familiar with theoperating envelope of themachine.Note: Before using the Bypass mode, make sureyou understand the fault code or issue affecting theoperation of the machine to be sure the use ofbypass is required. The Bypass mode will allow the platform to bemanually leveled when an out-of-level conditionexists. In the event that the platform angle isgreater than 10° from level, the boom angle andplatform level functions are disabled. Use of theBypass mode will allow the platform to be manuallyadjusted to within the normal operating envelope,±4.5°. Only auxiliary power can be used to correctan out of level platform fault.1 Turn the engine off.2 Turn the main key switch to ground controls.Remove the key from the main key switch andinsert the key into the bypass/recovery keyswitch.Note: The main key switch must remain in theground control position.
