406IPv6 unicast policy routing configurationThe switch operates in IRF or standalone (the default) mode. For more information about the IRF mode, seeIRF in the IRF Configuration Guide.Introduction to IPv6 unicast policy routingIPv6 unicast policy routing is used to route IPv6 unicasts based on a policy.Policy routing, also known as PBR, is a routing mechanism based on a user-defined policy.Different from the traditional destination-based routing mechanism, policy routing uses policies toroute packets based on the source address and other criteria.According to the objects to which the policy routing applies, policy routing involves local policyrouting and interface policy routing:• Local policy routing applies to locally generated packets only, such as the ICMP packetsgenerated by using the ping command.• Interface policy routing applies to packets forwarded through an interface only.In most cases, interface policy routing is implemented to meet the forwarding and securityrequirements.Policy routing takes precedence over destination-based routing. Specifically, policy routing isapplied to the packets matching the specified criteria, and other packets are forwarded throughdestination-based routing.Configuring IPv6 unicast policy routingConfiguring IPv6 policyA policy consists of one node or multiple nodes. A node is identified by a node number. Thesmaller the node number, the higher the priority of the node. The policy node with a higherpriority is executed first. Each node can be matched either in permit mode or deny mode, andconsists of if-match and apply clauses. Table 8 shows the relationship between the matchmode and the clauses.Table 8 Relationship between the match mode and the clausesIf a packet… Then…In permit mode In deny mode
