SYSTEM CONFIGURATION 21System SetupOnce the speakers have been placed in the roomand connected, the remaining steps are to pro-gram the system configuration memories. Withthe AVR 7000 two kind of memories are used, those associated individually with the inputselected, e.g. surround modes, and others work-ing independently from any input selected likespeaker output levels, crossover frequencies ordelay times used by the surround soundprocessor. You are now ready to power up the AVR 7000 tobegin these final adjustments.1. Plug the Power Cable › into an unswitchedAC outlet.2. Press the Main Power Switch 1 in until itlatches and the word “OFF” on the top of theswitch disappears inside the front panel. Notethat the Power Indicator 3 will turn amber, indicating that the unit is in the Standby mode.3. Install the four supplied AAA batteries in theremote as shown. Be certain to follow the (+) and(–) polarity indicators that are on the bottom ofthe battery compartment.4. Turn the AVR 7000 on either by pressing theSystem Power Control 2 or the InputSource Selector ! on the front panel, or viathe remote by pressing the AVR Selector 1 orany of the CD/Tape/ DVD Selectors 2 on theremote. The Power Indicator 3 will turn greento confirm that the unit is on, and theInformation Display Ò will also light up.Using the On-Screen DisplayWhen making the following adjustments, you mayfind them easier to make via the unit’s on-screendisplay system. These easy-to-read displays giveyou a clear picture of the current status of theunit and facilitate speaker, delay, input or digitalselection you are making. To view the on-screen displays, make certain youhave made a connection from the Monitor Outjack e on the rear panel to the composite or S-Video input of your TV or projector. In order toview the AVR’s displays, the correct video inputmust be selected on your video display.IMPORTANT NOTE: When viewing the displays ona projection TV it is important that they not be lefton the screen for an extended period of time. Aswith any video display, but particularly with projec-tors, constant display of a static image such asthese menus or video game images may cause theimage to be permanently “burned into” the CRT.This type of damage is not covered by the AVR7000 warranty and may not be covered by the pro-jector TV set’s warranty. The AVR 7000 has two on-screen display modes,“Semi-OSD” and “Full-OSD.” When making con-figuration adjustments, it is recommended thatthe Full-OSD mode be used. This will place a com-plete status report or option listing on the screen, making it easier to view the available options andmake the settings on the screen. The Semi-OSDmode uses one-line displays only.Using the full OSD system and the on-screenmenus is usually the easiest way to make adjust-ments, as this method presents the full range ofchoices for each option on the screen. However, note that when the full OSD system is in use, themenu selections are not shown in theInformation Display Ò W. When the fullOSD menu system is used, OSD ON will appear inthe Main Information Display W and theOSD Indicator M will illuminate to remind youthat a video display must be used. When the semi-OSD system is used in conjunctionwith the discrete configuration buttons, the onscreen display will show a single line of text withthe current menu selection. That selection willalso be shown in the Main InformationDisplay W Note that the horizontal arrow but-tons ‹/› 9 cannot be used with the semi-OSD. Settings must be made by pressing theappropriate discrete configuration button, e.g.Speaker Û and options be selected, e.g.Center Speaker, with the ‹/› SelectorButtons 5 on the front or ⁄/¤ 6 on theremote, then Set ( 8 to confirm. Afterwardsthe setting can be made, e.g. Small/Large, withthe ‹/› Selector Buttons 5 on the front or⁄/¤ 6 on the remote and confirmed againwith the Set ( 8 button.Selecting the On-Screen displayThe full OSD system is always available by press-ing the OSD button I. When this button ispressed the main AUDIO SETUP menu(Figure 1) will appear, and adjustments are madefrom the individual menus. Note that the menuswill remain on the screen for 20 seconds after thelatest action was made on the screen menu, thenthey will “time-out” and disappear from thescreen. The time-out may be increased to as muchas 50 seconds by going to the ADVANCEDSELECT menu, and changing the item titledF U L L O S D T I M E O U T.The semi-OSD system is also available as a systemdefault, although it may be turned off by usingthe ADVANCED SELECT menu. (Seepage 35.) With the semi-OSD system, you maymake adjustments directly, by pressing the but-tons on the front panel or remote control for thespecific parameter to be adjusted as outlinedabove.Figure 1Settings associated only with InputselectedThe AVR 7000 features an advanced memory sys-tem that enables you to establish different config-urations for the speaker configuration, digitalinput and surround mode for each input source. This flexibility enables you to custom tailor theway in which you listen to each source and havethe AVR 7000 memorize them. This means, forexample, that you may associate different sur-round modes and analog or digital inputs withdifferent sources, or set different speaker configu-rations with the resultant changes to the bassmanagement system. Once these settings aremade, they will automatically be recalled when-ever you select an input. The default settings for the AVR 7000, as it isshipped from the factory, have all inputs set foran analog source, with stereo as the surroundmode, the front left and right speakers set to“large” (with surround modes other speakers to”small”), and a subwoofer connected. Beforeusing the unit, you will probably want to changethese settings for most inputs so that they areproperly configured to reflect the use of digital oranalog inputs, the type of speakers installed andthe surround mode specifics. Remember, since theAVR 7000’s memory system keeps the settings foreach input separate from the other inputs, youwill need to make these adjustments for eachinput used. However, once they are made, furtheradjustment is only required when system compo-nents are changed. To make this process as quick and as easy aspossible, we suggest that you use the full-OSDsystem with the on-screen menus, and stepthrough each input. Once you have completed thesettings for the first input, many settings may beduplicated for the remaining inputs.
