MULTIROOM OPERATION 37Multiroom OperationThe AVR 7000 is fully equipped to operate as thecontrol center for a sophisticated audio/videomultiroom system with optional remote externalInfrared (IR) sensors, TV, speakers and poweramplifiers. Although some multi-room installa-tions will require the services of a speciallytrained installer, it is possible for the averagedo-it-yourself hobbyist to install a simple remoteroom system.InstallationThe key to remote room operation is to link theremote room to the AVR 7000’s location withwire for an infrared receiver and speakers or anamplifier and a TV. For complete installationinstructions for Multiroom use, see page 18.Multiroom SetupOnce the audio and IR link connections have beenmade, the AVR 7000 needs to be configured formultiroom operation using the steps below. Pressthe OSD button I to bring the M A I NAUDIO SETUP menu (Figure 1) to thescreen. Press the ⁄ / ¤ button 6, until the on-screen › cursor is next to the MULTI-R O O M line. Press the Set button 8 to enterthe MULTI-ROOM SETUP menu(Figure 10).Figure 10When the MULTI-ROOM SETUPmenu appears, the on-screen › cursor will be atthe MULTI-ROOM line. Since this line isused to turn the system on and off, do not makean adjustment here unless you wish to turn thesystem on at this time. To turn the system on,press the › button 9 so that O N is high-lighted. If you do not wish to turn the system onat this time or to proceed to the next step, pressthe ⁄ / ¤ Button 6 once so that the › on-screen cursor is next to the MULTI I N line.At the MULTI I N line, press the ‹/› but-tons 9 until the desired Audio/video inputto the multi-room system appears in the high-lighted video. Note that when a pure audiosource (CD, Tape, Tuner) is selected, the formervideo source will keep fed to the MultiroomVideo Outputs d. When the selection hasbeen made, press the ¤ button 6 once sothat the › on-screen cursor is next to theMULTI V O L line.At the MULTI V O L line, press the ‹/›buttons 9 or hold them pressed until thedesired volume level for the multi-room systemis entered. DO NOT use the regular volume con-trol knobs for this setting. When all settings forthe multiroom setup have been made, press the⁄/¤ buttons 6 until the on-screen › cursoris next to the RETURN T O M A I NM E N U line. If you have no other adjustmentsto make, press the OSD button I to exit themenu system.Multiroom OperationTo activate the feed to the remote room, pressthe Multiroom button Q on the remote.Next, press the Set button 8. Press the ⁄ / ¤buttons 6 to turn the multiroom feed on oroff. When the multiroom system is on, the Multiindicator O will light in the InformationDisplay Ò , and the Main InformationDisplay W or OSD will display MULTI O N.Press the Set button twice 8 to enter the set-ting.When the multiroom system is turned on, theaudio and video input, selected in the MultiroomSetup Menu (Figure 10), will be fed to theMultiroom Output jacks d on the rear panel.The volume will be as set in the same menu,although it may also be adjusted using anoptional IR sensor and the Zone II remote in theremote location or on the optional audio poweramplifier connected to the Multiroom Outputjacks d.If an optional IR sensor (or any other remotableHarman Kardon unit with IR sensor integrated,see page 18) is located in the remote room andconnected to the AVR 7000’s Multiroom IRInput jack b, the multiroom system may beturned on or controlled by simply pointing theZone II remote, or an optional programmableremote that includes codes for the AVR 7000, atthe IR sensor. Note that depending on the type ofprogrammable remote used, the code for theAVR’s Multiroom IR Input button b may notbe contained in the preprogrammed code library,and must be “learned” into the remote, if possi-ble.Once the multiroom system is turned on, theAVR 7000’s functions Multiroom on/off, inputselection, volume, mute and tuner preset selec-tion or tuning may be operated by using theZone II remote and an optional remote IR sensorconnected to the Multiroom IR Input jack b.In addition, the Zone II remote may also be usedto control compatible Harman Kardon CD, cas-sette and DVD players using the remote’s trans-port controls ∂Ƀ.Once the multiroom system is turned on, it willremain on even if the AVR 7000 is placed in theStandby mode in the main room by pressing thePower Off Button 3 or the System PowerControl 2 on the front panel. To turn off themultiroom system from the main listening room,even when the AVR is in Standby mode, pressthe Multiroom button Q and then the Setbutton 8. Press the ⁄ / ¤ buttons 6 so thatthe Multi indicator O in the InformationDisplay Ò goes out, and the MainInformation Display W or OSD will displayM U LTI O F F.
