Undetermined ProblemsYou are here because the diagnostic tests did not identifywhich adapter or device failed, installed devices areincorrect, a short circuit is suspected, or the system isinoperative. Follow the procedures below to isolate thefailing FRU (do not isolate non-defective FRUs).Verify that all attached devices are supported by thecomputers.Verify that the power supply being used at the time of thefailure is operating correctly. (See “Power SystemsCheckout” on page 322.)1. Power-off the computer.2. Check the cables, wires, and connectors for shortcircuits and open circuits. Visually check them fordamage. If any problems are found, replace theFRU.3. Remove or disconnect all of the following devices.a. Non-IBM devicesb. Devices attached to the expansion busconnectorc. Printer, mouse, and other external devicesd. Battery packe. Hard disk drivef. Diskette drive or the device attached to thediskette drive connectorg. IC DRAM card or DIMM cardh. PC CardsNote: Remember that removing the hard diskdrive, an IC DRAM card, or any adapter ordevice, might cause configuration errors. Ignoreerror code 174.4. Power-on the computer.5. Determine if the problem has changed.6. If the problem does not occur again, reconnect theremoved devices one at a time until you find thefailing FRU.7. If the problem remains, replace the following FRUsone at a time. Do not replace a non-defective FRU.
