5486Up8x.fm Draft Document for Review October 18, 2004310 IBM Eserver i5 and iSeries System Handbook5250 OLTP considerationsiSeries 5250 online transaction processing (OLTP) is a powerful, efficient, andreliable transaction processor that is used by many customers. If upgrading to theModel 520, 550, 570, 595, 810, 825, 870, or 890 with an Enterprise Edition, amaximum 5250 CPW is offered. The server’s entire resources are available for5250 OLTP applications if desired. The High Availability and Capacity BackUpEditions also provide maximum 5250 CPW.A Model 520, 550, 570, 595, 810, 825, 870, or 890 with a Standard Edition haszero 5250 Commercial Processing Workload (CPW). The maximum 5250 CPWis available with an upgrade from a Standard to Enterprise Edition. Manyadditional software, hardware, services, and education components are includedin the Enterprise Edition. However, the additional components are not includedduring a Standard Edition upgrade to an Enterprise Edition. The iSeries 820, 830, 840, and 890 processors that were announced in 2002without an Enterprise Edition, as well as earlier AS/400e models, use a set ofspecific 5250 CPW points designated by a 5250 interactive feature code.Customers are encouraged to review current 5250 CPW utilization with PMeServer iSeries, Management Central, PATROL for iSeries – Predict, orPerformance Tools for iSeries. You can find further information about 5250 CPW in Chapter 3, “Workload, capacity, and performance” on page 41.Hardware migration considerationsWhen migrating to iSeries models from earlier models, keep the followingconsiderations in mind: Model 520, 550, 570, and 595 processor features require IBM i5/OS V5R3. Some upgrades require a two-step approach to reach the requested model. An upgrade is performed via an intervening processor model or edition. Main storage features of one model typically cannot be used in a differentmodel. However, some Model 810 and 825 main storage features can beused in the Model 520, 550, or 570 if quad rules for these systems arefulfilled. Memory in the #2469 2-way Model 810 processor is not compatible and doesnot migrate to the Model 550 or 570. Refer to the following diagram to seewhat memory can be reused when upgrading to the Eserver i5 servers.
