10Electric brakeThis tool is equipped with an electric blade brake. If thetool consistently fails to quickly stop the blade after theswitch trigger is released, have the tool serviced at aMakita service center.CAUTION:• The blade brake system is not a substitute forthe blade guard. Never use tool without afunctioning blade guard. An unguarded blademay result in serious personal injury.ASSEMBLYWARNING:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andthe battery cartridge is removed before workingon the tool. Failure to switch off and remove thebattery cartridge may result in serious personalinjury.Hex wrench storage1 2012595The hex wrench is stored as shown in the figure. Whenthe hex wrench is needed it can be pulled out of thewrench holder. After using the hex wrench it can bestored by returning it to the wrench holder.Installing or removing saw blade1011300WARNING:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andthe battery cartridge is removed beforeinstalling or removing the blade. Accidental startup of the tool may result in serious personal injury.CAUTION:• Use only the Makita hex wrench provided to installor remove the blade. Failure to do so may result inovertightening or insufficient tightening of the hexsocket bolt. This could cause an injury.Lock the handle in the raised position by pushing in thestopper pin.To remove the blade, use the hex wrench to loosen the hexsocket bolt holding the center cover by turning itcounterclockwise. Raise the blade guard and center cover.1234012586Press the shaft lock to lock the spindle and use the hexwrench to loosen the hex socket bolt clockwise. Thenremove the hex socket bolt, outer flange and blade.12345012587NOTE:• If the inner flange is removed be sure to install it onthe spindle with its protrusion facing away from theblade. If the flange is installed incorrectly theflange will rub against the machine.To install the blade, mount it carefully onto the spindle, makingsure that the direction of the arrow on the surface of the bladematches the direction of the arrow on the blade case. Install theouter flange and hex socket bolt, and then use the hex wrenchto tighten the hex socket bolt (left-handed) securelycounterclockwise while pressing the shaft lock.1 2 34 50127171.
