15 ENGLISHInstalling or removing saw bladeCAUTION: Always be sure that the tool isswitched off and unplugged before installing orremoving the saw blade.CAUTION: Use only the Makita wrench pro-vided to install or remove the saw blade. Failureto do so may result in overtightening or insufficienttightening of the hex bolt. This could cause an injury.CAUTION: Use the following saw blade. Donot use saw blades which do not comply with thecharacteristics specified in these instructions.Diameter Blade thickness Kerf260 mm Less than 1.9 mm More than 2.1 mm1. Loosen the screws on the table insert and removeit.2. Hold the outer flange with the wrench and loosenthe hex nut counterclockwise with the other wrench.Then remove the outer flange.► Fig.21: 1. Wrench 2. Wrench 3. Hex nut3. Assemble the inner flange, ring, saw blade, outerflange and hex nut onto the arbor, making sure that theteeth of the blade are pointing down at the front of thetable. Always install the hex nut with its recessed sidefacing the outer flange.► Fig.22: 1. Inner flange 2. Ring 3. Saw blade4. Outer flange 5. Hex nutCAUTION: Be sure that the saw blade isinstalled so that the teeth are aligned in the cut-ting (turning) direction.CAUTION: Check the arbor hole diameter ofthe saw blade before installing the saw blade.Always use the correct ring for the arbor hole ofthe saw blade you intend to use. The size of thesupplied ring(s) varies depending on the country.• For tool for a 30 mm hole-diameter saw blade,the ring 30 mm in outer diameter is provided.• For tool for a 25.4 mm hole-diameter saw blade,the ring 25.4 mm in outer diameter is provided.4. To secure the saw blade in place, hold the outerflange with the wrench, then tighten the hex nut clock-wise with the other wrench. BE SURE TO TIGHTENTHE HEX NUT SECURELY.► Fig.23: 1. Wrench 2. WrenchCAUTION: Keep the flange surface clean ofdirt or other adhering matter; it could cause sawblade slippage.CAUTION: Be sure to hold the hex nut care-fully with the wrench. If your grip should slip, thewrench may come off the hex nut, and your handcould strike the sharp blade edges.5. Attach the table insert in place with the screws.Adjusting the riving knifeCAUTION: If the saw blade and riving knife arenot aligned properly, a dangerous pinching condi-tion may result during operation. Make sure they areproperly aligned. You could suffer serious personal injurywhile using the tool without a properly aligned riving knife.CAUTION: NEVER make any adjustmentswhile tool is running. Disconnect the tool beforemaking any adjustments.CAUTION: Don't remove the riving knife.► Fig.24: 1. Blade guard 2. Riving knife 3. Screw (6 pcs)The riving knife position is factory-adjusted so thatthe saw blade and riving knife will be in a straight line.However, you need to adjust it if the saw blade andriving knife are not in a straight line.Loosen the screws on the table insert and remove it fromthe main table. Loosen the hex bolts (B) and adjust theblade guard mounting portion (stay) so that the riving knife isaligned directly behind the saw blade. Then tighten the hexbolts (B) to secure the stay and put the table insert in place.► Fig.25: 1. Saw blade 2. These two clearancesshould be equal. 3. Riving knife 4. Hex bolts(B) 5. Hex bolts (A)There must be a clearance of about 4 - 5 mm betweenthe riving knife and the blade teeth. Loosen the hexbolts (A), adjust the riving knife accordingly and tightenthe hex bolts (A) securely. Attach the table insert on thetable with the screw, then check to see that the bladeguard works smoothly before cutting.► Fig.26: 1. Riving knife 2. Blade guard 3. 4 mm -5mm clearanceInstalling and adjusting rip fence► Fig.27: 1. Lever 2. Fence holder 3. Guide railInstall the rip fence so that the fence holder engageswith the nearmost guide rail.To secure the rip fence, pivot fully the lever on the fence holder.To check to be sure that the rip fence is parallel with thesaw blade, secure the rip fence 2 - 3 mm from the blade.Raise the blade up to maximum elevation. Mark one of theblade teeth with a crayon. Measure the distance (A) and(B) between the rip fence and saw blade. Take both mea-surements using the tooth marked with the crayon. Thesetwo measurements should be identical. If the rip fence isnot parallel with the saw blade, proceed as follows:► Fig.28: 1. Scale► Fig.29: 1. Hex bolts1. Secure the rip fence by lowering the lever on it.2. Loosen the two hex bolts on the rip fence with thehex wrench provided.3. Adjust the rip fence until it becomes parallel withthe saw blade.4. Tighten the two hex bolts on the rip fence.► Fig.30CAUTION: Be sure to adjust the rip fence sothat it is parallel with the saw blade, or a danger-ous kickback condition may occur. |
