2-45Throttle ControlThe throttle lever is located to the right of the driver(Figure 2-19). When the throttle lever is vertical, it is in theNEUTRAL position. The throttle lever is equipped with aneutral shift lock activation button. Depressing the neutral shiftlock activation button and lifting up on the safety collardisengages the transmission, thereby allowing use of the throttlewithout engaging the transmission. This is used for warm-up ofthe engine in NEUTRAL. The throttle control is equipped withan indicator light that illuminates when the neutral shift lock isengaged.Be sure to position the throttle vertically (in NEUTRAL), before re-engaging the transmission,by depressing the neutral shift lock activation button.Do not shift from forward to reverse at high RPMs; damage tothe transmission will result. When shifting from forward toreverse you must stop in the NEUTRAL position, doing thisallows the engine to run in its idle position before moving intothe opposite gear. Moving the shift lever from FORWARD toREVERSE without stopping in NEUTRAL can cause thetransmission to “slam” into gear, damaging the transmissionand/or causing the engine to shut off. This will causetemporary loss of boat control which can cause damageand/or injury to the boat and/or persons in or around the boat. Before starting the engine or engaging transmission, ensureall swimmers are out of the water.Electronic Throttle Control (ETC)All current Malibu Boats are equipped with electronic throttle control. The helm throttlecontrol “E-MV3” is now dual, variable voltage potentiometer that sends electronic signalsback to the engine ECM via a shielded wire harness with the highest quality water-tightconnectors that mates to the engine ECM. The ECM then uses the signals from the E-MV3to precisely control the engine speed with an electronic throttle body. Do not make anymodifications to the throttle control to ensure proper operation.!WARNING!WARNINGFigure 2-19. Throttle Lever
