- 22-NetworkVoice PrivacyVoice privacy is an enhanced security feature availablethrough some digital cellular service providers. Voice pri-vacy encrypts or scrambles the voice channel to ensure atelephone conversation is secure and private. For yourphone to utilize the cellular service provider’s enhancedvoice privacy feature, the voice privacy setting in yourphone must be turned on. To set the voice privacy selection,press M451 . Press 1 to turn off voice pri-vacy capability and notifications or press 2 to turn onvoice privacy capability and notification. When sending acall, VP Active is displayed if the voice privacy selection isturned on, enhanced voice privacy is available through thecellular service provider, and voice privacy security is activefor the call in progress. When sending a call, VP Inactiveis displayed if the voice privacy selection is turned on; butvoice privacy is not available through the cellular serviceprovider or voice privacy security is inactive for the call inprogress. Contact your cellular provider for the availabilityof voice privacy.Select SystemWhen your telephone is initially activated, your cellular ser-vice provider programs (or instructs you to program) yourphone with system information including your telephonenumber. The information programmed into your phone isreferred to as the Number Assignment Module or NAM.Your cellular phone can be programmed with two differenttelephone numbers or NAMs. (See “Select Phone Number”on page 23.) Note that only one phone number or NAM canbe active at one time.During activation, your phone is also set up on your cellularservice provider’s network. The network your phone uses isreferred to as the Home system. Whenever possible, yourphone accesses the Home system; however, if you are out-side of the home cellular service area, your phone attemptsto locate an available system. Locating an available systemis referred to as roaming. The call air time rate on roam sys-tems is usually more expensive than the call air time rate onyour home system.
