4-24 Configuring Your ServerRAID LevelsThe record mode enabling the RAID feature includes several levels. Among the levels, the OnboardRAID Controller (LSI Embedded MegaRAID) supports RAID levels 0 and 1. The Internal RAIDController (equivalent to N8103-116) supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, and 6. The number of hard diskdrives required to create a disk group varies depending on the RAID level as shown in the tablebelow.Number of required HDDsRAID level Min. Max.RAID 0 1 8RAID 1 2 2RAID 5 3 8RAID 6 3 8IMPORTANT: To use RAID 5 or RAID 6, with Internal RAIDController (equivalent to N8103-116), you need to additionally installthe optional N8103-119 RAID Upgrade Kit.NOTE: For details of the RAID levels, see "RAID Levels" describedlater in this chapter.Disk GroupA disk group is configured with more than one HDDs.The allowable number of disk groups is equal to the number of HDDs.The figure below shows a sample configuration. The three HDDs are connected to the OnboardRAID Controller (LSI Embedded MegaRAID) or Internal RAID Controller (equivalent to N8103-116), creating one disk group (DG).HDD 1(36 GB)HDD 2(36 GB)HDD 3(36 GB)RAID ControllerDisk Group 0: 108 GB
