4-30 Installing OptionsCabling Storage DevicesAll storage devices require power and signal cable connections. Devicesshipped with the system are already connected. Use the following cablingprocedures for replacing or installing optional devices.IDE Drive CablingCable an IDE drive in accordance with the manufacturers instructions andas follows.1. Determine if the drive being installed is a master device or a slavedevice on the primary channel or secondary channel (see the previoustable, “IDE Connector Configurations”). Set the drive jumpersaccordingly.2. Connect an available signal cable connector to the connector on theIDE drive. Use care to prevent bending connector pins.3. Locate an available power connector coming from the power supply.4. Connect the appropriate power cable to the power connector on theIDE drive.5. If you are installing a CD-ROM drive or a DVD-ROM drive and yoursystem has speakers, connect the drive’s audio cable to the CD Inconnector on the system board or optional sound board (see theinstructions that come with the drive).Diskette Drive CablingCable a diskette drive as follows.1. Connect the diskette drive signal cable connector to the signalconnector on the diskette drive.2. Connect the other end of the cable to the signal connector on thesystem board.3. Locate an available power connector coming from the power supply.4. Connect the power cable to the power connector on the device.
