33CHAPTER 7M ACINTOSH S ETUPO VERVIEWThe following chapter contains information on how toconfigure your PowerMac to work with a SuperScript colorlaser printer. It also explains how to install the printersoftwareM ACINTOSH R EQUIREMENTSThis section describes the hardware and softwarerequirements for Macintosh computers to connect withSuperScript color laser printers.Software RequirementsFor Macintosh computers to connect to the printer, they mustmeet the following requirements.• EtherTalk software must be installed in your computerand active.• The operating system must be Mac OS 7.1 or higher.• The standard LaserWriter 8 printer driver must beinstalled. Check the Chooser in the Apple menu to assurethat it is installed. If it isn’t, use the Mac OS help systemfor information about installing it.• The standard Apple Script program must be installedand active before configuring your networkconfiguration.• The NEC SuperScript PPD must be installed.Hardware RequirementsHardware requirements are categorized into requirementsfor the Macintosh and requirements for the printer.Macintosh Hardware Requirements• The computer must already be connected to the networkand able to communicate with the network via Ethernet.note: PowerMacs have built-in Ethernet capabilities.Older Macs need to have an Ethernet expansion cardinstalled.• An appropriate 10/100Base-T cable must be connected tothe Ethernet port.Printer Hardware Requirements• To receive print jobs from a Macintosh computer, theprinter must be an “N” model or have a SuperScript NICinstalled.• The printer must already be connected to an Ethernetnetwork.
