See the documentation provided with your lens fordetails.Focal Plane PositionTo determine the distance between your subject and the camera, measure from thefocal plane mark on the camera body. The distance between the lens mounting flangeand the focal plane is 46.5 mm (1.83˝).Manual FocusManual focus is available for lenses that do not support autofocus (non-AFNikkor lenses) or when the autofocus does not produce the desired results (73). To focus manually, set the focus-mode selector to M and adjust the lensfocusing ring until the image displayed on the clear matte field in the viewfinderis in focus. Photographs can be taken at any time, even when the image isnot in focus.The Electronic Range FinderIf the lens has a maximum aperture of f/5.6 orfaster, the viewfinder focus indicator can be usedto confirm whether the subject in the selectedfocus area is in focus. After positioning your sub-ject in the active focus area, press the shutter-re-lease button halfway and rotate the lens focusingring until the in-focus indicator (●) is displayed.
