Photographs can be takenat any time, even when the image is not in focus.When using a lens that offers A-M selection, select M when focusing manually. With lensesthat support M/ A (autofocus with manual priority), focus can be adjusted manually withthe lens set to M or M/ A. See the documentation provided with your lens for details.~ The Electronic RangefinderIf the lens has a maximum aperture of f/S.6 or faster, the viewfinder focusindicator can be used to confirm whether the portion of the subject in theselected focus point is in focus. After positioning the subject in the activefocus point, press the shutter-release button halfway and rotate the lensfocusing ring until the in-focus indicator (e) is displayed. Use CustomSetting 19 (Rangefinder; ~ 116) to display rangefinder, a scale indicatingthe focus distance for shooting in manual focus mode. Note that if thesubject is one for which autofocus does not perform well (tJ! 38), the in-focus indicator (e) may bedisplayed even when the subject is not in focus. Confirm that the image in the viewfinder is in focusbefore shooting.~ Focal Plane PositionTo determine the distance between your subject and the camera, measurefrom the focal plane mark (-&) on the camera body.
