87• 3D-tracking: Select the focus point as described on page 89. InAF-A and AF-C focus modes, the camera will track subjects thatleave the selected focus point and select new focus points asrequired. Use to quickly compose pictures with subjects thatare moving erratically from side to side (e.g., tennis players). Ifthe subject leaves viewfinder, remove your finger from theshutter-release button and recompose the photograph withthe subject in the selected focus point.• Auto-area AF: The camera automaticallydetects the subject and selects thefocus point (in the case of portraitsubjects, the camera is able todistinguish the subject from thebackground for improved subjectdetection). The active focus points arehighlighted briefly after the camera focuses; in AF-C mode orwhen continuous-servo autofocus is selected in AF-A mode, themain focus point remains highlighted after the other focuspoints have turned off.A 3D-trackingWhen the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, the colors in thearea surrounding the focus point are stored in the camera.Consequently 3D-tracking may not produce the desired results withsubjects that are similar in color to the background or that occupy avery small area of the frame.
