This option controls whetherfile numbering continues from the last number used when anew folder is created, the memory card is formatted, or a newmemory card is inserted in the camera.d7: File Number SequenceG button ➜ A (Custom Settings menu)Option DescriptionOnFile numbering continues from the last number used orfrom the largest file number in the current folder,whichever is higher. If a picture is taken when the currentfolder contains a picture numbered 9999, a new folder willbe created automatically and file numbering will beginagain from 0001.OffFile numbering is reset to 0001 when a new folder iscreated, the memory card is formatted, or a new memorycard is inserted in the camera. Note that a new folder iscreated automatically if a picture is taken when the currentfolder contains 5000 pictures.ResetAs for On, except that the next picture taken after Reset isselected is assigned a file number by adding one to thelargest file number in the current folder. If the folder isempty, file numbering is reset to 0001.D File Number SequenceIf the current folder is numbered 999 and contains either 5000 picturesor a picture numbered 9999, the shutter-release button will bedisabled and no further pictures can be taken (in addition, movierecording may be disabled if the camera calculates that the number offiles needed to record a movie of the maximum length would result inthe folder containing over 5000 files or a file with a number over 9999).Choose Reset for Custom Setting d7 (File number sequence) andthen either format the current memory card or insert a new memorycard.
