An internet access point is a collection of settings, whichdefine how the device creates a data connection to thenetwork. To use e-mail and multimedia services or to browseweb pages, you must first define access points for theseservices.Some or all access points may be preset for your device byyour service provider, and you may not be able to create, edit,or remove them.To create a new access point, select Options > New accesspoint or select an existing access point from the list and thenOptions > Duplicate access point to use the access pointas a basis for the new one.Packet data (GPRS) settingsSelect Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Packetdata.Your device supports packet data connections, such as GPRSin the GSM network. When you are using your device in GSMand UMTS networks, it is possible to have multiple dataconnections active at the same time; access points can sharea data connection, and data connections remain active, forexample, during voice calls. See "Connectionmanager", p. 101.To define the packet data settings, select Packet dataconnection and select When available to register thedevice to the packet data network when you switch thedevice on in a supported network, or When needed toestablish a packet data connection only when an applicationor action requires it. Select Access point and enter the accesspoint name provided by your service provider to use thedevice as a packet data modem to your computer. To use ahigh-speed data connection, select High speed packetaccess > Enabled.These settings affect all access points for packet dataconnections.WLAN settingsSelect Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection >Wireless LAN.To have an indicator displayed when there is a WLANavailable in your current location, select Show WLANavailability > Yes.To select the interval for your device to scan for availableWLANs and update the indicator, select Scan for networks.This setting is not available unless you select Show WLANavailability > Yes.Advanced WLAN settingsSelect Options > Advanced settings. The advanced WLANsettings are normally defined automatically, and changingthem is not recommended.To edit the settings manually, select Automaticconfiguration > Disabled, and define the following:• Long retry limit — Enter the maximum number oftransmission attempts if the device does not receive areceiving acknowledgement signal from the network.© 2007 Nokia.
