Onlyphones that offercompatible multimediamessage features canreceive and displaymultimedia messages.A multimedia message can containtext, one image, sound clip, videoclip or a slide. The phone supportsmultimedia messages that are up to100 kb in size. If the maximum size isexceeded, the phone may not be ableto receive the message. Dependingon the network, you may receive atext message that includes anInternet address where you can viewthe multimedia message on the PC.If the message contains an image,the phone scales it down to fit thedisplay area.The multimedia function uses sharedmemory, see ”Shared memory” onpage xi.Copyright protections may preventsome images, ringing tones or othercontent from being copied, modified,transferred or forwarded.Note: If Allow multimediareception is set to Yes or Inhome network, youroperator or service providermay charge you for everymessage you receive.Multimedia messaging supports thefollowing formats:• Image: JPEG, GIF, WBMP, BMP,PNG and OTA-BMP• Sound: Scalable Polyphonic MIDI(SP-MIDI), AMR audio andmonophonic ringing tones• Video clips in H.263 format withSubQCIF image size and AMRaudio.The phone does not necessarilysupport all variations of theaforementioned file formats. If areceived message contains anyunsupported elements, they may bereplaced with the file name and thetext Object format not supported.Note that you cannot receive anymultimedia messages if you have acall in progress, a game or anotherJava application running, or anactive browsing session over GSMdata (see ”Keying in the servicesettings manually” on page 87).Because delivery of multimediamessages can fail for a variety ofreasons, do not rely solely uponthem for essential communications.
