You can view detailsof installed applications, remove applications, anddefine installation settings.You can install two types of applications and softwareto your device:• J2ME applications based on Java technology with theextension .jad or .jar• Other applications and software suitable for theSymbian operating system with the extension .sisor .sisxOnly install software that is compatible with yourdevice.Install applicationsYou can transfer installation files to your device from acompatible computer, download them duringbrowsing, or receive them in a multimedia message,as an e-mail attachment, or using other connectivitymethods, such as Bluetooth connectivity. You can useNokia Application Installer in Nokia PC Suite to installan application to your device.Select Menu > Ctrl. panel > App. mgr..Icons in Application manager indicate the following:SIS or SISX applicationJava applicationwidgetsImportant: Only install and use applications andother software from trusted sources, such asapplications that are Symbian Signed or have passedthe Java Verified™ testing.Before installation, note the following:• To view the application type, version number, andthe supplier or manufacturer of the application,select Options > View details.To display the security certificate details of theapplication, in Details:, scroll to Certificates:, andselect View details.• If you install a file that contains an update or repairto an existing application, you can only restore theoriginal application if you have the originalinstallation file or a full backup copy of the removedsoftware package. To restore the originalapplication, remove the application, and install theapplication again from the original installation fileor the backup copy.The JAR file is required for installing Javaapplications. If it is missing, the device may ask youto download it. If there is no access point definedfor the application, you are asked to select one.When you are downloading the JAR file, you mayneed to enter a user name and password to access 125 Security and data management |
