View and start conversationsUnder the Conversations heading you can see a list ofthe contacts with whom you have an ongoingconversation. Ongoing conversations areautomatically closed when you exit IM.To view a conversation, scroll to a participant, andpress the scroll key.To continue the conversation when you are viewing it,write your message, and press the scroll key.To return to the conversations list without closing theconversation, select Back.To close the conversation, select Options > Endconversation.To start a new conversation, select Options > Newconversation.Change your own statusTo change your own IM status that is seen by other IMusers, in the application main view, scroll to the firstitem.To select a new status, press the scroll key. Scroll to thenew status, and press the scroll key.Modify your personal IMpreferencesSelect Options > Settings > Preferences and fromthe following:• Use screen name (shown only if IM groups aresupported by the server) — To enter a nickname,select Yes.• Show my availability — To allow others to see ifyou are online, select To everyone.• Allow messages from — To allow messages fromall, select All.• Allow messages from — To allow messages onlyfrom your contacts, select IM contacts only. IMinvitations are sent by contacts who want you tojoin their groups.• Sort IM contacts — Select how your contacts aresorted: Alphabetically or By online status.• Availability reloading — To select how to updateinformation about whether your contacts are onlineor offline, select Automatic or Manual.• Offline contacts — Select whether contacts withan offline status are shown in the contacts list.• Own message colour — Select the colour of theinstant messages you send.• Received message colour — Select the colour ofthe instant messages you receive.• Show date/ time info — To view the date and timeof the instant messages in conversations, selectYes.• IM alert tone — Change the tone that sounds whenyou receive a new instant message.Retrieve IM contact listsYou can retrieve contact lists from the server, or add anew contact to a contact list. When you log in to theserver, the previously used contact lists are retrievedfrom the server automatically.54 Messaging |
