You can installtwo types of applications and software to your device:• J2ME TM applications based on Java technology withthe extension .jad or .jar ( ).• Other applications and software suitable for theSymbian operating system ( ). The installation fileshave the .sis extension. Only install softwarespecifically designed for your Nokia N92. Softwareproviders will often refer to the official model numberof this product: the Nokia N92-1.Installation files may be transferred to your device from acompatible computer, downloaded during browsing, orsent to you in a multimedia message, as an e-mailattachment, or using Bluetooth connectivity or infrared.You can use Nokia Application Installer in Nokia PC Suiteto install an application to your device. If you useMicrosoft Windows Explorer to transfer a file, save the fileto a compatible memory card (local disk).Install applications and softwareindicates a .sis application, a Java application,that the application is not fully installed, and that theapplication is installed on the memory card.Important: Only install and use applications andother software from sources that offer adequate securityand protection against harmful software.Before installation, note the following:• To view the application type, version number, and thesupplier or manufacturer of the application, selectOptions > View details.• To display the security certificate details of theapplication, select Options > View certificate. See‘Certificate management’, p. 113.• If you install a file that contains an update or repair toan existing application, you can only restore theoriginal application if you have the original installationfile or a full back-up copy of the removed softwarepackage. To restore the original application, remove theapplication, and install the application again from theoriginal installation file or the back-up copy.• The .jar file is required for installing Java applications.If it is missing, the device may ask you to download it.
