Chapter 22 Replacing the hard disk 269BCM200/400 4.0 Installation and Maintenance GuideTo remove a primary hard disk from a RAID hard disk cage1 Remove the RAID hard disk cage from the main unit (see “Removing a hard disk cage” onpage 260).2 Disconnect the hard disk IDE connector from the primary hard disk.3 Unscrew the hard disk retainer screws from both sides of the RAID hard disk cage (see Figure129). Place the retainer screws in a safe location.4 Remove the primary hard disk from the RAID hard disk cage (see Figure 129).Figure 129 Remove the primary hard disk from the RAID hard disk cage5 Place the primary hard disk on a flat, clean, and static-free surface.Removing a mirror hard disk from a RAID hard disk cageUse this procedure to remove the mirror hard disk from the RAID hard disk cage for the BCM200and BCM400 system. Use this procedure if you need to replace a faulty mirror hard disk.Nortel recommends that you replace the failed mirror hard disk to retain full redundancy. Replacethe failed mirror hard disk during a period of low call traffic. If you choose to remove both theprimary and mirror hard disks from the hard disk cage, place an identifying mark on the primaryhard disk to ensure correct installation.Warning: Protect the hardware components against damage from electrostatic discharge.Always wear a grounded wriststrap before you handle components. Always place thecomponents in a static-free container.Remove the primary hard diskretainer screwsRemove the primary hard disk fromthe hard disk cage3Disconnect the primary hard disk IDE ribbon cable fromthe primary hard disk IDE connector1 2BCM400 RAID shownMirror hard disk ribbon cable Primary hard disk ribbon cable
