Chapter 22 Replacing the hard disk 275BCM200/400 4.0 Installation and Maintenance GuideInitializing the hard disk in a single-disk configurationThe BCM system is normally initialized prior to shipment. If you replace the hard disk in astandard single-disk system, the BCM system initializes the hard disk automatically to the defaultvalues for network parameters, time zone, and market profile. After auto-initialization, you canchange the default values (see “To initialize the hard disk in a single disk configuration” on page275).To initialize a RAID configuration, refer to “Initializing the hard disk in a RAID configuration” onpage 275.For further information on how to replace a hard disk in a standard configuration, refer to“Replacing a hard disk in the hard disk cage” on page 267. For further information on how tomonitor disk activity, refer to “System monitoring and troubleshooting” on page 217.After initialization, you should restore the configuration data to the BCM. Use the backup andrestore utility (BRU) to restore configuration data (see “Using the backup and restore utility” onpage 250). Nortel recommends that you maintain a current configuration backup. If you do nothave a current backup, enter the configuration data manually. To initialize the hard disk in a single disk configuration1 After the BCM system reboots, the system initializes the hard disk automatically and restoresthe default values.2 To change the default values of the configuration parameters, perform the following tasks:a Use the configuration menu to change the system IP address or perform other basicconfiguration tasks (see “To display the configuration menus” on page 182).b Manually enter the values of the configuration parameters for your system (see“Configuring the BCM system” on page 185).3 Restore system and data information (except Telephony and Registry) from your backup data. For information on how to restore data to your system from a backup, see “Using the backupand restore utility” on page 250.Initializing the hard disk in a RAID configurationAfter replacing either of the hard disks in a RAID configuration, the new hard disk is initializedautomatically when the system is restarted. You do not need to perform specific initializationprocedures.Note: When you replace a hard disk, IP configuration data is lost. The BCM system IPaddress defaults to 10.10.10.1.
