Chapter 23 Replacing or upgrading a power supply 277BCM200/400 4.0 Installation and Maintenance GuideChapter 23Replacing or upgrading a power supplyThe BCM200 uses a standard power supply. The BCM400 and expansion units use either astandard or redundant power supply. This chapter describes the following power supply installation and replacement techniques:• “Replacing a standard power supply” on page 277• “Upgrading to a redundant power supply” on page 288Replacing a standard power supplyThis section describes how to remove and install a standard power supply in the main unit andcontains the following procedures:• “Removing a BCM200 power supply” on page 278• “Installing a BCM200 standard power supply” on page 280• “Removing a BCM400 standard power supply” on page 284• “Installing a BCM400 standard power supply” on page 286If the main unit or expansion unit has a standard power supply that fails, then all activity on thesystem stops. This procedure describes how to replace a failed standard power supply unit. Figure134 provides an overview of the process for replacing a standard power supply.Note: For the BCM400 RFO configuration only, a redundant power supply is included.Use a redundant fan with the redundant power supply (see “Installing a BCM400 coolingfan” on page 328).Warning: You must remove all of the connections to the BCM system before you powerthe system down. Failure to disconnect the lines before you power down the system cancause damage to the system.Warning: Protect the hardware components against damage from electrostatic discharge.Always wear a grounded wrist strap before you handle components. Always place thecomponents in a static-free container.
