To get the best performance from the cache server, you canfine-tune individual cache settings to meet the needs of your Internet users. If youdecide you want to fine-tune the Instant Internet unit’s cache settings, consider thefollowing.Increasing response timesTo ensure that users always experience the fastest response times forfrequently-requested Web entries, enable active refresh. This option attempts tokeep the most frequently requested Web entries available in the cache byrefreshing them from the Internet. For details, refer to “Refreshing cache entries”on page 234.Increasing bandwidth savingsYou have several options for increasing efficiency and saving bandwidth. Youcan:• Change the cache level. The Instant Internet unit is shipped with threepredefined cache levels and an additional custom level that sets expiration andcertain special Web request options for the Instant Internet unit. The first thingyou can do to increase efficiency is change from the default Moderate cachelevel to the Aggressive level. For details, refer to “Selecting a cache level” onpage 209.• Restrict Web servers from setting cookies on client workstations. Restrictingcookies enables the cache server to cache Web entries it may otherwise beunable to cache. For details, refer to “Managing cookies” on page 223.• Restrict user access to certain Web sites. Frequent or recreational access tounacceptable Web sites can fill up the cache and unnecessarily increasebandwidth consumption. For details, refer to “Managing Web site access” onpage 228.• Review the cache statistics and make adjustments based on individualstatistics.
