The test pattern consists of four coloured bands (black, cyan, magenta and yellow), a series of lines and a CMYK header, indicatingthe compensating print modes for damaged jets.[33] The prime testtttt To interpret the prime testn The bands should be smooth, without dark streaks or white lines. The linesshould not look fuzzy or contain gaps.n Within the printed test pattern, each jet is represented by a short horizontalline. Together, these short horizontal lines form a “stair step” pattern.n Electrically defective jets appear as solid bars which can be compensated.n Clogged jets appear as gaps or misdirected lines in the “stair step” pattern, which must be cleared manually.n The print modes for which compensation is available are shown above thetest pattern.n In the example above, the prime test shows that there are three electricallydefective jets and one clogged jet. The header indicates that you cancompensate for the electrically defective jets in the 4-pass mode. But youmust clear the clogged jet manually. See ‘clearing clogged jets’ on page 93for further information.Note: If all jets appear to be defective, reinstall the cartridges.4321
